The handbook provides policy guidance in the field of natural hazard awareness and disaster risk reduction education to governments. It is based on a stocktaking of country initiatives to promote risk awareness and education on natural perils and related risks performed by the OECD and covering selected OECD countries as well as two major non-OECD countries, China and India.
This conference aimed to advance and elevate the dialogue on financial education in the international arena, focusing on financial education strategies in Latin America.

The paper discusses vulnerabilities in selected segments of the insurance sector and identifies specific issues related to the role of the insurance sector in the current financial crisis. The paper is part of a special report on the financial crisis and private pensions and insurance policies which will form part of the “OECD Strategic Response to the Crisis” and it provides a framework for the analysis in that report.
This event focused on Thailand and South East Asia five years after the tsunami, the threats of global warming, natural hazard awareness and disaster risk reduction education, hazard mapping, risk assessment, insurance coverage of natural catastrophe risks; and catastrophe-linked securities and the role of capital markets in promoting the growth of global capacity to absorb natural catastrophe risks.
