OECD Conference Centre

Paris - France

This event took place on the first day of the
DAC Network on Development Evaluation's
regular two-day meeting.

The private sector is widely recognised as a main driver of economic growth and employment creation - key dimensions in the international community’s work to promote sustainable development and poverty reduction. Increasingly, development partners work directly with the private sector in developing countries to deliver programmes in areas such as enterprise development, aid for trade, financial sector policy and investment climate reform. Read more about evaluating support to private sector development.

This day-long workshop brought together the World Bank Independent Evaluation Group (IEG) and the OECD DAC Network on Development Evaluation, along with other key actors and development finance institutions, to share experiences on evaluating private sector-oriented development co-operation.

The objectives of the workshop were to:

  • Promote better understanding of private sector projects potential contribution to development, building on the evaluation capabilities and experiences of workshop participants,

  • Discuss policy lessons from recent evaluations and evaluation approaches for support to private sector development programmes, especially in the areas of private-public partnerships and support to small and medium enterprises,

  • Identify next steps to enhance collaboration and learning.
