Smarter partnerships for development: Realising the true potential between development actors lie at the heart of the success of the Millennium Development Goals. MDG 8 on building partnerships for development is essential if the MDG targets are to be achieved by 2015.
On 20 September 2010, the OECD, UNITAR and Egypt co-hosted a side event on building smarter partnerships for development, with the participation of the OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría. To intensify action to build a true global partnership for development, international development actors should:
- strengthen inclusiveness and voice
- keep promises
- improve development practice and change behaviour

The side event brought together a panel of guest speakers including parliamentarians, civil society and the private sector who showcased examples of partnership practices which have contributed towards the MDGs in aid and development, emergency response and human rights.
In recent years, the OECD Working Party on Aid Effectiveness has been a forum for development actors to come together, specifically in the areas of South-South co-operation, the role of the Private sector and aid effectiveness and innovative financing.
