    The OECD is well placed to contribute to global follow-up on the sustainable development goals (SDGs) with its range of measurement, country assessment, peer review and peer learning mechanisms. Indeed, its data, expertise, and convening power can serve as a GPS for SDG implementation.

    While the gradual recovery in most advanced economies continues, commodity exporters face strong headwinds from falling oil, coal and metal prices. In 2016, global growth is expected to rise to 3.6%, contingent on sustained growth in advanced economies.

    Current state of mobilisation of climate finance

    The OECD was asked to provide an up-to-date aggregate estimate of mobilised climate finance in relation to the commitment by developed countries to jointly mobilise USD 100 billion a year by 2020 for climate action in developing countries. We have done this work in collaboration with Climate Policy Initiative.

    Istanbul G20 Trade Ministers Meeting - Remarks at session on the slowdown in global trade

    Trade plays an important role in driving economic productivity, investment and growth, and has the potential to create better jobs, increase wages, and improve working conditions. And yet, 2014 marked the third consecutive year in which global trade volumes grew less than 3%. Trade and investment, the twin and complementary engines for reviving the world economy, are lagging behind.

    In the last decade, the world has made important progress in fighting extreme poverty, but we still have a long way to go. I just came back from New York, where the international community adopted the Sustainable Development Goals. Enthusiasm was in abundance, but the debate was pretty sobering.
