Secrétaire général

Visit of the OECD Secretary-General to Mexico (1st - 6th November 2012)

The Secretary-General will be in Mexico from the 1st to the 6th of November to attend the meetings of G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors, where he will intervene on various issues, notably on the Global Economy and Framework and on the International Financial Architecture.

In the margins of the Finance Ministerial meeting, he will be invited by the Mexican Minister of Finance, Mr. Jose Antonio Meade Kuribeña, to take part in a Press Conference on Disaster Risk Management, together with Mr. Jim Yong Kim, President of the World Bank. On this occasion, Secretary-General Gurría will present the G20/OECD Methodological Framework for Disaster Risk Assessment and Risk Financing, a work requested by G20 Finance Ministers to the OECD.

While in Mexico, Mr. Angel Gurría will also present two other OECD publications: the Study “Strengthening Evidence-Based Policymaking on Security and Justice in Mexico”; and the Assessment and Recommendations of the forthcoming Report “Making Water Reform Happen in Mexico” (to be published in 2013).

The Secretary-General will also deliver a Keynote speech on Financial Consumer Protection at a Conference organised by the Ministry of Finance of Mexico on Financial Regulation and Innovation in emerging markets and developing economies. The aim of the conference is to gather the views of private sector representatives, national regulatory and supervisory authorities, relevant standard setting bodies, academics and researchers in order to identify policy alternatives to foster economic growth while enhancing financial inclusion levels. The Secretary-General will focus his intervention on OECD’s contributions to the G20 work in the areas of financial consumer protection and financial education.

Mr. Gurría will also attend the first G20 Trade and Investment Promotion Summit, where he will  deliver a Keynote Speech on “The Emergence of Global Value Chains: What Do They Mean for Business?”. He will also deliver opening remarks at the Seminar “Los Ciudadanos y la Agenda para el Desarrollo de México”, focusing on Mexico’s development agenda.

Finally, the Secretary-General will be presented with a recognition to his longstanding contribution to the development of  public administration in Mexico, the Medalla al Mérito Administrativo Internacional “Gustavo Martínez Cabañas”, awarded by the Instituto Nacional de Administración Pública (INAP).
