The Secretary-General met Chancellor Angela Merkel with the Heads of the International Monetary Fund (Managing Director Christine Lagarde), the World Bank Group (President Jim Yong Kim), the World Trade Organization (Director-General Pascal Lamy) and the International Labour Organisation (Director-General Guy Ryder).They discussed the global economic outlook as well as the situation in Europe, focusing on the policies needed to return to growth and promote employment, improve competitiveness, and addressed trade and development challenges.
During his visit to Berlin, Mr. Angel Gurría also talked about upcoming trade issues at a Trade Policy Luncheon Discussion “Standstill in the Doha Round - are bilateral free-trade agreements a way out of the dead-end?”, with Ms. Anne Ruth Herkes, State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, Germany, and Mr. Pascal Lamy, Director-General of the World Trade Organization.
The Secretary-General presented the OECD’s views on “new approaches to economic development” at the 4th Annual Global Perspectives Conference, which is one of the most important gatherings of Civil Society Organisations. He also met bilaterally with Mr. Wolfgang Schäuble, Minister of Finance.
