Effective agricultural knowledge and innovation systems ensure that the global food system provides adequate supplies of high quality food and non-food agricultural products. As part of a project on innovation systems in agriculture, OECD will review selected member countries and emerging economies to identify best innovation practices.
The reviews will look at agricultural knowledge and innovation institutions and will examine the respective roles for the government and the private sector in strengthening innovation systems and facilitating adoption. The effectiveness of research and development (R&D) policy will be discussed in the context of global food security, climate change and other challenges facing the global food and agriculture system. International spill-overs of research and other trans-boundary issues, such as the transfer of technology, will also be examined from a development perspective.
