Gender Equality and Family, Korea
Yoonsun Cho was appointed as Minister of Gender Equality and Family of the Republic of Korea in March 2013.
She holds a Bachelor's Degree in International Relations from Seoul National University in 1988 and a Master of Laws (LL.M) Degree from Columbia Law School in 2001.
Ms. Cho started her career as a corporate lawyer at Kim and Chang. Upon completion of her LL.M degree, she worked at Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington D.C. as an intern to Hon. Judge Garjasa before she returned to Korea. She joined Citibank Korea and served as Managing Director and General Counsel from 2007 until she joined politics. In May 2008, she became Member of the 18th National Assembly. Ms. Cho served as the spokesperson of the Grand National Party (now Saenuri Party), and again, served as the spokesperson of the Presidential Candidate, Mme Park Geun Hye, and the spokesperson of the President Elect. Ms. Cho also participated in establishing a scholarship foundation for the descendants of the Korean War Veterans, the "Korean War Memorial Foundation" with General Baek Sun Yeop and served as a Vice-Chairperson of the Foundation from July 2010 to March 2013. She has worked as a goodwill ambassador of Foreign Aid of the Korean International Co-operation Agency (KOICA) since July 2010.
Ms. Cho is the author of two books, Meeting Opera at the Art Gallery and Culture Is the Answer.
