Cristián Larroulet holds a degree in Commercial Engineering from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and a Master in Economics of the University of Chicago.

He has long experience in the design and implementation of public policies. He was Head of Staff of former Minister of Finance Hernán Büchi and was Executive Director of the Instituto Libertad y Desarrollo (LYD) for 20 years. From this last position, he advised the Congress in various matters and was a member in different commissions, such as the commission which allowed for the agreement of the General Education Law, and the new Corporate Governance of Codelco. Additionally, he was head co-ordinator of the Tantauco Groups, which designed the government program of the President of the Republic Sebastián Piñera. He has a long academic career as well. He has been a professor at the Faculty of Economics at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez and Universidad de Chile. He was also a visiting investigator at the Institute of The Americas, University of California, San Diego. He was Dean of the Economics and Business Faculty at the Universidad del Desarrollo.

He has written different academic publications, both in Chile and abroad, and is the author of the book Economics, published by McGraw-Hill.

He is currently a member of the Mont Pelerin Society and of the Chilean Academy of Social Sciences, Politics and Moral, of the Chile Institute.
