President and CEO, GE Australia & New Zealand; Chair, B20 Human Capital Task Force
Steve Sargent is President and CEO of GE Australia, New Zealand, and Papua New Guinea. He is responsible for all GE operations across energy, water, oil & gas, transportation, aviation, mining, healthcare, and financial services in the region—one of GE's largest and fastest growing markets globally. This year, Steve was appointed by the Australian Government as Coordinating Chair of the Australian B20 Human Capital Taskforce to develop recommendations to improve global Human Capital. These recommendations will be tabled at the B20 Summit in July and presented to the leaders of G20 nations during the G20 Summit. Mr. Sargent is a member of the Australian Treasurer’s Financial Sector Advisory Council, President of the American Chamber of Commerce and a Director on the Board of the Business Council of Australia. He is a Non-Executive Director on the Board of Bond University, Australia's leading private university, and a Fellow with the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering. Joining GE Capital in 1993 in New York, Steve has held several global leadership positions spanning the US, Europe and Asia. In 1999 he became Chief Quality Officer for GE Capital globally and then President & CEO for GE Commercial Finance, Europe. He returned in 2003 to lead GE Capital Australia & New Zealand; becoming President & CEO GE Capital Asia Pacific in 2009. Steve was appointed a Vice President and Officer of GE in 2008 and is the first Australian to be appointed to this position.
