Shinzo Abe is a Member of the House of Representatives to which he has been elected 7 times for the Yamaguchi 4th district (Shimonoseki and Nagato cities). Shinzo Abe graduated in 1977 from the Department of Political Science at the Faculty of Law of Seikei University. He started his career by joining Kobe Steel, Ltd in 1979. In 1982, he became Executive Assistant to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and was elected in 1993 as Member of the House of Representatives. In 1999, he became a Trustee of the Committee on Health and Welfare and the Director of the Social Affairs Division of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). In 2000, he was assigned to serve as Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary in the second Mori Cabinet. In 2001, he became Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary in the First Koizumi Cabinet and the Second Mori Cabinet (reshuffled), and Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary in 2002 in the first Koizumi Cabinet (1st Reshuffled). He became Secretary-General of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) in 2003 and Acting Secretary-General and Chairman of Reform Promotion Headquarters in 2004. He served as Chief Cabinet Secretary in the Third Koizumi Cabinet (Reshuffled) in 2005 before becoming President of the LDP in 2006 and Prime Minister the same year. A year after, he resigned as Prime Minister before assuming this responsibility again in 2012, also as President of LDP.
