Rob van Gijzel
Since 2008, Rob van Gijzel is the mayor of Eindhoven, chairman of the Metropole Region Eindhoven and chairman of the Brainport Foundation. He also holds the position of chairman of the International Community Forum Foundation, based in New York. This is the international organisation that named the Brainport region Eindhoven Intelligent Community of the Year in 2011. Mr. van Gijzel studied andragogy at the Amsterdam University. During his student days in Amsterdam he served as chairman of the Young Socialists. In 1989, Mr. van Gijzel was elected as a member of parliament for the PvdA (Labour party) where he, among other things, was spokesman on the subjects of traffic, infrastructure, town and country planning and foreign affairs. Mr. van Gijzel has chaired many committees, amongst which include The Hague Sports Club; the National Car Pass Association; and the Supervisory Board of the Lumens Group; and he was a representative of the ABVA/KABO Union. He has also used his management skills on the boards of a wide range of organisations, including the National Association for Priority Urban Districts, Woonbedrijf, a residential building corporation, RWE, an energy company, Chainworks, a reintegration company, and the Catharina Church Advisory Committee of Social Debates. Mr. van Gijzel is married, with two children, and lives in Eindhoven.
