Ms. Maria Francesca SPATOLISANO
An official of the European Commission since 1985, her experience has included assignments as Head of the Economic section of the EU Delegation to the UN (2006-2010); as Deputy Permanent Representative of the EU to the OECD in Paris (2001-2006); as First Counsellor for economic affairs and trade policy in Washington, DC (1995-1997). Ms. Spatolisano participated in international trade negotiations including the GATT Uruguay Round and the WTO Doha Development Agenda.
She was the EC representative to the WTO Trade and Development Committee (1997-2000) and a Vice-Chair of the OECD Trade Working Party during her assignment in Paris. She has lectured on international trade policy and international relations at universities in the USA, Argentina, Italy and at the College of Europe in Bruges.
Prior to joining the European Commission, she was Assistant Professor of Constitutional Law at Florence University, where she obtained her Doctorate in Law “cum laude”. She is an alumnus of the Salzburg Seminar and of the Executive Education Programme of the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
Ambassador Maria Francesca Spatolisano took up her duties as Permanent Representative of the European Union to the OECD on 17 January 2012.
