A risk management monograph on methylene chloride (a paint stripper) was published in 1994. Following the publication, Member countries agreed to establish an information exchange programme to collect and analyse information on new approaches for controlling methylene chloride exposure, and the health and environmental effects of possible substitutes. A questionnaire soliciting this information was submitted to Member countries and industry, and the survey results were published in 1996.
