Assessment of chemicals

Exposure Assessment

Risks of chemicals on human health and the environment are assessed by combining the chemical-specific hazard data and the estimation of the extent to which man and other organisms are exposed to chemicals. OECD has been working mainly on environmental exposure assessment for more than 10 years by developing a series of Emission Scenario Document (ESDs) and other guidance documents and tools related to exposure of chemicals to the environment.

In 2008, member countries agreed to extend the scope of activities to human health exposure, and several new projects related to exposure consumers, workers and general public have been established.
