Energy and Water Consumption and Waste Generation

The OECD Sustainable Consumption Programme is currently working on a Sector Case Study on Households Energy and Water Consumption and Waste Generation. The Study will document the trends and drivers of energy and water consumption and waste generation at the household level in OECD countries and in particularly in four countries: Germany, Greece, Mexico, and The Netherlands.

The case study will also examine pertinent market dynamics, technological developments, infrastructure, and institutional changes with respect to their impact on energy and water use and waste management decisions made by consumers. The main objectives of the case study are to identify both the environmental impacts of residential housing patterns and the potential points for policy intervention to reduce priority impacts. This case study will be completed by the last quarter of 2001 and published by the end of 2001.
