OECD unemployment rate stable at 7.9% in April 2012

12/06/2012 - The OECD area unemployment rate was unchanged at 7.9% in April 2012, around the same rate observed since January 2011, but 2.3 percentage points higher than the level recorded four years earlier.
Differences in unemployment rates across OECD countries remain large. In April 2012, the rate for the Euro area, unchanged at 11.0%, was 3.7 percentage points higher than its all time low of 7.3% recorded in March 2008. In May 2012, the unemployment rate was 8.2% in the United States (up 0.1 percentage point), interrupting the decline recorded since August 2011, and stable at 7.3% in Canada.
