IZA / OECD Employment Seminar 3-4 November

Job creation in hard times
Learning from the past and new policy directions

IZA / OECD Employment Seminar

3-4 November 2011, Paris, OECD Conference Center

The OECD and IZA will hold a joint seminar on ‘Job creation in hard times: Learning from the past and new policy directions’. The aim of the seminar is to review the labour market consequences of the recent economic crisis and to share views on key policy lessons. In particular, the seminar will provide an opportunity to discuss how the labour market in different countries has evolved during the global economic downturn and assess the different policy strategies put in place to provide support to the unemployed and promote adjustment in working time and thus contain job losses. The seminar is also part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the OECD and so will include a reflection on how labour market conditions and policies have evolved over the longer term and the key challenges they will be facing going forward.

Main objectives:

» Updating discussion about labour market consequences of the recent economic crisis
» Taking stock of lessons to be learned from policy responses to previous recessions
» Discussion about key labour market challenges and viable forward-looking policies
» Bringing academic and policy people together
