Value in Pharmaceutical Pricing

This study analyses how 14 OECD Countries refer to "value" when making decisions on reimbursement and prices of new medicines. It details the type of outcomes considered, the perspective and methods adopted for economic evaluation when used; and the consideration of budget impact. It describes which dimensions are taken into account in the assessment of "innovativeness" and the consequences of this assessment on prices; it confirms that treatments for severe and/or rare diseases are often more valued than others and shows how countries use product-specific agreements in an attempt to better align value and price.

Public Health in an Age of Genomics

This report presents the findings of a research project to investigate the drivers and criteria shaping the application of genomic biotechnology to health in different national settings, and the barriers to implementation nationally and internationally. The data, albeit based on limited evidence from a small sample of countries, suggest a significant divergence in the way that different countries are tending to adopt genomics for public health, which may have important implications for thinking about how genomic science and technology might best be employed in the interests of global public health.

Health at a Glance 2013

(Forthcoming - 21st November)

This new edition of Health at a Glance provides the latest comparable data on different aspects of the performance of health systems in OECD countries. Where possible, it also reports data for BRIICS countries. Compared with the previous edition, this 2013 edition contains new indicators on health inequalities, risk factors to health among children, the pharmaceutical market, quality of care and access to care. Each indicator in the book is presented in a user-friendly format, consisting of charts illustrating variations across countries and over time, brief descriptive analyses highlighting the major findings conveyed by the data, and a methodological box on the definition of the indicator and any limitations in data comparability.

Cancer Care: Assuring Quality to Improve Survival

(Forthcoming - 30th of October)

More than five million new cases of cancer are diagnosed every year in OECD countries. Mortality rates are declining, but not as fast as for other big killers such as heart disease, and cancer survival rates show almost a four-fold difference across countries. In short, many countries are not doing as well as they could in the fight against cancer.

Cancer Care: Assuring Quality to Improve Survival surveys the policy trends in cancer care over recent years and looks at survival rates to identify the why some countries are doing better than others.
