Attracting, Developing and Retaining Effective Teachers - Country Reviews

A team of four reviewers (including at least one OECD Secretariat member) analyses the Country Background Report and associated materials and subsequently undertakes an intensive case study visit of around 10 days in length. The reviewers are selected in consultation with the country authorities to ensure that they have experience relevant to the main policy issues in the country concerned.

The study visit aims at providing the review team with a variety of perspectives on teacher policy. The visit includes meetings with senior policy makers, parents, school principals, teacher unions, teacher educators, researchers, and visits to schools and teacher education institutions.

After the visit is concluded, the review team prepares a short Country Note that provides, from an international perspective, reflections on specific issues and policies concerning teacher policy in the country concerned.

Nine countries (ten systems) have chosen to take part in a Country Review. Visits took place from November 2002 to September 2003.

Below you can find the schedule for the visits and the resulting report (Country Note) which provides the conclusions of the review team.
