06/12/2011 - The OECD will publish its latest Economic Surveys of the Russian Federation and Israel on Monday 12 December 2011.

The new survey of the Russian Federation looks at how the country is recovering from the severe 2008-09 recession and assesses what can be done to ensure that economic activity regains pre-crisis levels and resumes convergence with the OECD area. It includes recommendations for modernising the economy, improving the business environment and increasing energy efficiency.

A news conference with OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría and Russian Minister of Economic Development Elvira Nabiullina will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday 12 December 2011 at the Ministry of Economic Development (MED), 18/1, Ovchinnikovskaya Naberezhnaya, Moscow.

Mr Gurría will also present the first-ever Labour Market and Social Policy Review for the Russian Federation. The report includes recommendations for enhancing living standards, improving  social spending as well as a number of proposals for strengthening the labour market and pension system.

The survey will be available to journalists in English on the OECD's password-protected website at 6:30 a.m. Paris time (9:30 a.m. in Moscow) on 12 December for immediate release.

The new survey of Israel assesses how the worsening global outlook is affecting the Israeli economy, and proposes policy reforms that can help the country boost growth while meeting long-term poverty and inequality challenges. The report also includes recommendations for financial sector reform, improving the housing market and specific economic and environmental issues linked to the energy sector.

A news conference with OECD economists Peter Jarrett and Philip Hemmings, Israeli Minister of Finance Yuval Steinitz and Bank of Israel Governor Stanley Fischer will be held at 10:00 a.m. (9:00 a.m. Paris Time) on Monday 12 December at the Ministry of Finance, 1 Kaplan St., Jerusalem, Israel.
