Bold structural reforms are crucial to boost growth in the face of a rapidly ageing population and very high government debt. Effective implementation of all three arrows of Abenomics is required. Fiscal consolidation is imperative but must be carried out while promoting social cohesion. Monetary stimulus should continue until inflation is sustainably at the 2% target.
