Centre for Educational Research and Innovation (CERI) - Social Outcomes of Learning

OECD is now moving beyond economic and employment effects as measurable outcomes of education.  This reflects an awareness that education has a significant role in improving many aspects of the quality of life.  This project, supported by 12 countries, aims to explore the causal links between education and major social domains such as health (mental and physical) and civic engagement.  It also covers the way parental education affects the lives of younger generations, and the way the benefits of education are distributed across different social groups.  It combines modelling work with empirical analysis, and proposals for indicators for further data-gathering.

The first results of this work appear in the new CERI publication Understanding the Social Outcomes of Learning which explores the links between education and its benefits to society.
