Purpose of aid charts: Focus on aid to basic social services

 

Definition:  The definition of aid to basic social services (BSS) includes "basic education", “basic health”, "population and reproductive health", “basic drinking water supply and basic sanitation”, and "multisector aid for basic social services". 

CRS Aid Activity data on aid to basic social services are presented hereunder: 

Metadata:  The CRS Aid Activity database is estimated to cover 75-80 % of DAC countries’ bilateral ODA to basic social services in the 1990s.   The 20% data gap mainly relates to technical co-operation activities by France, Germany and Japan.  France and Germany both started reporting on their TC in 1999, which brought the coverage to over 90%.  Japan started reporting on TC in 2003, since when the coverage is complete.
