New Chair of the OECD Forum on Tax Administration

The OECD is pleased to announce the appointment of a new Chair of its Forum on Tax Administration (FTA).  Mr. Paul Gray CB, Chairman of Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs of the United Kingdom will take up his role as Chair on 1 June 2007, replacing Mr. Mark W. Everson, IRS Commissioner of the United States.

The FTA brings together Commissioners from 30 OECD member countries and selected non-OECD countries to share information and experiences and to develop best practices for tax administration in the areas of taxpayer service and compliance.  Given the diversity of its membership, the Forum on Tax Administration provides a unique opportunity for heads of national revenue bodies to meet and discuss key issues of interest. With between 30-35 countries typically represented at each meeting and discussions focused around issues of major importance, the FTA is the Forum of first choice for heads of national revenue bodies.

Mr. Gray has had a distinguished career in the UK Civil Service.  He has been the Chairman of HM Revenue and Customs since 1 September 2006.  Mr. Gray has also held senior positions in the Department of Work and Pensions and HM Treasury.

Mr. Gray said that “I am very pleased to be elected to this position.  My priority during my term of office will be to continue to make the FTA a valuable Forum where Commissioners can discuss ways to improve compliance with each country’s tax laws.”
