OECD Composite Leading Indicator increases in May 2002: Increase in G7 countries

05/07/2002 - The Composite Leading Indicator (CLI) for the OECD area increased by 0.4 point in May 2002 to 116.7 from 116.3 in April. At the same time, the six-month rate of change improved for seven consecutive months.

For the United States, the CLI increased by 0.2 point in May. Its six-month rate of change was the same as the previous month. The CLI for the Euro area increased by 0.6 point in May and its six-month rate of change improved for seven consecutive months. The CLI for Japan increased by 0.3 point in May and its six-month rate of change increased for eight consecutive months.

The CLI for the United Kingdom increased by 1.1 points in May and its six-month rate of change improved for six consecutive months. The CLI for Canada increased by 0.1 point in May whereas its six-month rate of change decreased. The CLI for Italy increased by 0.2 point in May and its six-month rate of change was the same as the previous month. Finally, the CLIs for Germany and France increased in May, as did their six-month rates of change.
