Introductory Note

The OECD Cooperative Chemicals Assessment Programme is evolving to encompass a wider scope of assessments than HPV chemicals and to include a variety of new projects.

The Manual for the Assessment of Chemicals has been revised to reflect the changes to the Programme. New versions of Chapters 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 are available below. Chapter 3 is currently under revision.

Chapter 1 provides an introduction to the OECD Cooperative Chemicals Assessment Programme.

Chapter 2 describes the process for the gathering of data

Chapter 3 contains guidance for evaluating the quality of data (section 3.1) as well as guidance for grouping of substances (section 3.2) and the use of structure-activity relationships (section 3.3)

Chapter 4 contains guidance for assessing the hazards of chemical substances to man and the environment

Chapter 5 describes how to elaborate the assessment report (also includes a template assessment report and explanatory notes)

Chapter 6 describes how to elaborate the assessment profile (also includes a template assessment profile)
