From 13-15 August 2009 the Global Project on Measuring the Progress of Societies and InWent Capacity Building International ran a 3 day Workshop on “Knowledge – Policies: Bridging the gap between producers and users of Statistics” preceding the 57th Session of the International Statistical Institute Conference in Durban, South Africa. We had 51 participants coming from 10 different African countries, as well as one from New Zealand and another from Palestine.
We spent a good deal of time talking about the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and what was missing. These conversations led to some a recurring themes on the need to measure good governance in the MDGs as one key goals in Africa’s ongoing development.
