Miguel J. Escala, D.Ed.

Dr. Escala graduated from the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo  with a Licenciate in Psychology, Magna cum Laude.  He obtained a Graduate Diploma in Educational Psychology at the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC).  Dr. Escala completed a Master´s degree  (1985) and a doctorate (1988) in Higher Education at the Pennsylvania State University.

His first job was at the Colegio Dominicano de La Salle (a K-12 Christian Brothers´  school), where he worked in various teaching and administrative positions.  Since 1974, Dr. Escala was member of the faculty of the Department of Psychology at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo.  In 1982 he started working at the INTEC where he served as coordinator of the Graduate Program in School Supervision.  After his doctorate he returned to INTEC and became Dean of Special Programs, and member of the Faculty of Graduate programs in Education and Human Resource Management.  For two years he was a member of the Board of Regents of INTEC.  He was adjunct professor at INTEC and at Nova Southeastern University in the Dominican Republic doctoral clusters.

Dr. Escala served as Consultant Coordinator and later as Program Coordinator in the Program for Devolopment of Technical Education sponsored by the Interamerican Development Bank in Santo Domingo.  He has been consultant in educational projects at the Ministries of Education of the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, and Panama. 

Dr. Escala was Director of the Dominican Institute of Industrial Technology and implemented a competency model at the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic and later became Director of the Department of Human Resources at that institution. 

After leaving the Central Bank in 2003,  Dr. Escala served as educational and human resource development consultant in several institutions, and as monitoring and evaluation specialist in a local and a regional project.  He was member of the Board of Administrators of the Institute for Higher Education in Latin American and the Caribbean, IESALC/UNESCO from 2001 to 2005.

Dr. Escala, is the Rector of the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo, INTEC, a private non-profit university in the Dominican Republic.
