SBO Network on Health Expenditures

The OECD Working Party of Senior Budget Officials (SBO) created a new network in 2011, the SBO Network on Health Expenditures, which focuses on the fiscal sustainability of public health and long-term care.

The SBO Network on Health Expenditures brings together health budget examiners, in close co-ordination with the OECD Health Committee, in order to address the consequences of increasing health and long-term care expenditures, in particular for economic growth, public finances and solidarity arrangements. The network seeks to identify appropriate solutions for the challenges faced by member countries, through international comparison and exchange of good country practices, drawing on work from the OECD committees on health, on economic policy and on public governance, in order to promote cross-sectoral discussion – in particular linking health economics with public finance.

The chair of the network is Geert van Maanen, Secretary General of the Ministry of Health, Wellbeing and Sport, Netherlands. The first meeting of the network was held in Paris, 21-22 November 2011.
