The OECD Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Working Group on Corporate Governance is a part of the broader MENA-OECD Investment Programme, aiming to assist efforts for mobilising investment as a driving force for economic growth and development in the region. The objective of this Working Group is to support the on-going reform process by creating a regional network for policy dialogue on corporate governance, and by establishing a platform for country-specific and regional advice and initiatives, and for assessment of the progress with implementation.
The Working Group brings together senior policy makers, regulators and market participants from the region, with OECD experts and representatives of international organisations. The Working Group benefits from the support of the Global Corporate Governance Forum, the International Finance Corporation, and the Centre for International Private Enterprise. It works closely with home grown institutions and initiatives, such as the Regional Institute for Corporate Governance, the Union of Arab Banks, and others.
Advancing the Corporate Governance Agenda in the MENA.
Following its meetings held in 2005, the MENA Working Group issued a Survey on Corporate Governance, comparing legal frameworks and developments in the region and including a set of policy conclusions. An additional section discussing recent trends and corporate events will be added to the Survey in 2007 in order to provide a solid basis for the formulation of concrete recommendations for improving the corporate governance practices. The survey also provided background for the development of recommendations set out in the Dubai Declaration and for the launch of key initiatives on corporate governance of banks, state-owned enterprises and insolvency
