Global Education Imperative: Higher Education and Globalization

Plenary Session 2 Presentation Abstract

Presentation by Gordon Freedman

Blackboard Inc, an academic technology company with over 3400 clients in 70 countries, examines the changes in the higher education landscape brought on by globalization. Globalization presents challenges to governments, institutions, and learners. Choices between building national economies and providing for world access and social welfare confront institutions and their funders. The requirements for success in the 21st Century involve the transformation of higher education institutions from simple providers of courses and degrees to more complex social and economic organizations. Lessons from the Blackboard research team will provide highlights from the company’s upcoming global white paper, The Global Education Imperative.
