Presentation of the OECD Latin American Economic Outlook 2011 in The Dominican Republic

 

The Latin American Economic Outlook 2011: How middle-class is Latin America? was presented in Santo Domingo on 9 March 2011, at the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development of the Dominican Republic.

 

Opening speech by the Minister Mr. Temístocles Montás followed a presentation by Carlos Álvarez, Deputy Director of the OECD Development Centre, was followed by a presentation of a report on middle sectors in the Dominican Republic, a study commissioned by the Ministry. Both reports highlight the vulnerability of households in the middle sector of the income distribution, underscoring the growing focus on these sectors across the region.

 

The Outlook presents public policies that promote upward mobility and provide effective safety nets, with the goal of consolidating these middle sectors into stable middle classes.
