The Development Centre Turns 50
To commemorate this special occasion, the Centre will bring together a broad range of stakeholders from academia, partner institutions and OECD and non-OECD governments, offering analysis and reflections on key development issues that will shape the direction of the Centre in the years to come.
The week will kick off on 27 February with a series of events at OECD Headquarters in Paris and will culminate in the first ever High-Level Meeting of the Centre's Governing Board on 1 March. Participants will share experiences and identify policy options to build competitive economies and cohesive societies in an increasingly interconnected world.
The 50th anniversary week will also be an opportunity for participants to express their views on the OECD Strategy on Development.

3 years left to reach the Millennium Development Goals
HOW?

As the economic crisis weighs on public budgets in OECD donor countries, it is now clear that official development assistance (ODA) alone will not fill the MDG financing gap. Of course, many low-income countries still badly need ODA, but achieving the MDGs overall requires that other resources such as domestic tax revenues and private capital flows play their role in promoting inclusive growth in developing and emerging countries.
How much money is needed? Revisiting MDG Cost Estimates from a Domestic Resource Mobilisation Perspective brings updated global estimates of the additional financial resources needed in developing countries to achieve the Goals. It was carried out with the support of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and its preliminary results were discussed at a seminar co-organized by South Africa's National Treasury, UNDP South Africa and the South African Institute for International Affairs.

LDC IV Monitor developed at Trade and Development Symposium to monitor Istanbul Action Plan
Eight think tanks and academic institutions from LDC and partner countries launched the LDC IV Monitor during the Trade and Development Symposium at the WTO in Geneva on 17 December 2011. LDC IV Monitor has been created to deliver analytical, independent and policy-oriented monitoring of the Istanbul Action Plan. The Development Centre will contribute to this initiative with an in-depth analysis of infrastructure in LDCs in Africa and Asia. This analysis will focus on major governance challenges to increase the effectiveness of infrastructure investments through the evaluation of the different phases of the policy-making process.
www.ldc4monitor.org will soon be available.

Tackling Migration Policy Challenges : Regulation, Integration, Development
A comprehensive governance framework should be centred on three complementary objectives: more flexible regulation of flows, better integration of immigrants and greater impact of labour mobility on development. Find out more here, and check out our blog post at the World Bank.
