The Joint OECD/Korea Policy Centre opened its doors in July 2008, following the integration of 4 pre-existing OECD/Korea Centres including the former Regional Centre on Health and Social Policy (RCHSP).

The Centre aims to develop data capacity in co-operation with individual country experts and international partners such as the Asian Development Bank, The Asia Pacific National Health Accounts Network (APNHAN), the International Labour Organisation, the World Bank and the World Health Organisation. It organises seminars, conferences and workshops to foster the exchange of technical information and policy experiences in sectors like health statistics, pension reforms and social expenditure.

Health statistics
The OECD/Korea Policy Centre encourages the development of health accounting systems to track health expenditures and financing flows in the Asian/Pacific Region. Eight System of Health Accounts Green Papers have been released, covering Bangladesh, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong - China, Mongolia, Korea, Thailand, Sri Lanka and China, and one more paper on Malaysia is under production.

Since 2005, the Centre has also hosted annual meetings of Health Accounts Experts in the Asian-Pacific Region jointly with APNHAN. These meetings have offered a venue for taking stock of recent developments in health accounts work at the regional and national levels, discuss technical issues and data-collection improvements, and review the quality of health accounting data and practices in the region. They also provide an opportunity for pulling together Asian-Pacific contributions to the global process of revision of the System of Health Accounts manual, in light of regional practices.

Social policy

The OECD Korea Policy Centre organised a OECD-Korea Centre/ADB conference on Social Protection Index for Committed Poverty Reduction in December 2007 and a follow-up ADB/ILO/OECD Korea Policy Centre meeting of Social Policy Indicators Experts in Asia in November 2008. The publication Society at a Glance - Asia/Pacific Edition (modelled on OECD Society at a Glance) was released in August 2009.

Pension reforms
The OECD/Korea Policy Centre held a joint OECD/Korea Centre and World Bank international conference on Pension Reform in Asia and the Pacific on 25-26 June 2008. The publication Pensions at a Glance: Asia/Pacific was launched at the conference and released in January 2009.
