Official Visit of the Secretary-General to Chile (6 - 9 November 2007)

During his official visit to Chile, Secretary-General Angel Gurría met with:

  • Ms. Michelle BACHELET, President of Chile
  • Mr. Alejandro FOXLEY, Minister of Foreign Affairs
  • Mr. Andrés VELASCO, Minister of Finance
  • Mrs. Claudia SERRANO, Vice-Minister of the Interior
  • Mr. Vittorio CORBO LIOI, Chairman of the Board, Central Bank of Chile
Mr. Gurría presented the OECD's first Latin American Economic Outlook at a launch event including panel sessions to discuss the reform agenda in the region and the contribution of business to development in Latin America (read his speech).
 
He also launched the OECD Innovation Policy Review of Chile (read his speech).
 
Mr. Gurría gave a keynote speech on the impact of China and India on challenges and opportunities in Latin America at a meeting of Iberoamerican enterprises, and participated in the 17th Iberoamerican Summit.

Financial crisis: Save our savings

Amid the worst current financial crisis since the 1930s, EU leaders have pledged to protect savers’ deposits. Already most OECD countries have explicit deposit insurance schemes for savings up to certain limits. In a number of countries these have now been raised temporarily.
