1989: Took active part in the renewal of Social Democratic Party
1990-1992: Chair of Social Democratic Women´s organization
1992: Elected to the Czech National Council, and has since this date served as a member of the Parliament of the Czech Republic
1996-2002: Vice-Chair of the Chamber of Deputies in the Parliament of the Czech Republic
2002: Appointed to the post of Minister of Education, Youth and Sport of the Czech Republic
