Biography of H.E. RamaKrishna Sithanen: OECD Policy Dialogue on Aid for Trade

Honourable Ramakrishna Sithanen is one of the prominent economists in Mauritius. He holds a First Class Honours degree as well as a Masters in Economics with a Mark of Distinction from the London School of Economics. After a brilliant and successful career in the Mauritian private sector, he joined politics in 1991 when he was elected to the National Assembly for the first time.  He held the post of Minister of Finance until 1995. In 1994, the Honourable Sithanen earned international recognition when he was chosen by the Switzerland-based World Economic Forum as one of the 100 Global Leaders for Tomorrow. Hon Sithanen was recently re-elected to the Mauritian National Assembly and has been assigned the responsibility of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance and Economic Development at a time when the country is going through a difficult transition.  As Minister, he has been at the forefront of the debate on Aid for Trade as a means to enable developing countries to smoothly confront the challenges of globalization and trade liberialisation.
