Mr. Lauzon, SWAC Director, participated in the 31st ordinary session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso on 19 January 2007.
The Authority launched the transformation of the ECOWAS Secretariat into a Commission as well as the restructuring of the ECOWAS institutions in order for these institutions to be more efficient and be able to fully play their role in the integration and development process of the region.
They urged the incoming Chairman of ECOWAS to convene a meeting of ECOWAS Ministers of Finance and of the new Commissioners to set clear priority areas for the Commission that will give impetus to an action-orientated focus on a few sectors such as energy, transport, information and communication technology as well as trade facilitation. > learn more: ECOWAS
