Biography of Mr Hans Peter Lankes, IMF: OECD Policy Dialogue on Aid for Trade

Mr. Hans Peter Lankes has been Chief of the IMF’s Trade Policy Division (TPD) since January 2002. The division reviews and advises on the Fund’s policies as well as program and surveillance work in relation to trade and foreign direct investment. He joined the IMF in early 2001 from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development where he was Director of Strategy. Previously he held positions in government and academia in Nicaragua and Costa Rica, and with the German-Thai Chamber of Commerce in Bangkok. An economist by training, Mr. Lankes holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University and degrees from the universities of Freiburg and Grenoble, and the Kennedy School of Government.
