We want to make our statistics easier to find, by more people, and to improve the services we offer. The Statistics Dissemination Project is creating three new services:

• OECD Statistics will provide access to complete databases where users can build their own tables and make extracts from the live data.
• OECD Key Tables (Core Data) will be a set of ready-made frequested requested tables.
• OECD Facts and Figures will combine commentary with easily interpretable and dynamic graphs.

OECD Statistics

OECD.Stat, our corporate database and its web browser, now gives access to around 300 datasets and offers three key features:

• Discovery: Search for complex statistical data across OECD databases with one or two clicks.
• Mix and Merge: Assemble data from various datasets and create customised tables.
• Metadata: Get a clear explanation of the sources, definitions and other information related to the figures.

How to access OECD.Stat:

• OECD.Stat Extracts: a selection of datasets available without a subscription.
• OECD.Stat: our complete statistics service by subscription.
• Free trials are available via SourceOECD. 
• Government officials and journalists have access via a password.

Forthcoming Developments

Early this year, we will launch an enhanced version of the OECD.Stat browser which will provide access to thematic database packages with links to related ready-made tables, publications and a database citation tool.  A pilot is available here: 

• OECD Gender, Institutions and Development Database
• OECD Social Expenditure Database 
  

By the end of 2009, OECD.Stat will replace the Beyond 20/20 service currently provided via SourceOECD.

OECD Key Tables (Core Data)

OECD Key Tables will provide easy access to about 1000 basic tables covering the full range of OECD Statistics.This will include our most requested data, grouped into themes and made available in ready-made take-away formats, Excel®, PDF and online. A pilot is available at: www.oecd.org/statistics/keytables.

OECD Facts and Figures

Several experiments were launched to evaluate alternative ways of publishing data, the most recent of which is the presentation of charts and graphs with commentary in the Spotlight feature on the Statistics Portal. We are also evaluating several emerging data visualising tools:

• Gapminder Trendalyzer
• Joint presentation of data in the IMF Data Mapper® 
• Dynamic charts in the OECD Factbook 2008 using Adobe Flex
• A new tool for visualizing regional maps
