Gaby Hostens, Director-General, Education Department, Flemish Community of Belgium

Gaby Hostens used to be a teacher and a headmaster in a secondary school. In 1988 he became an advisor to the Flemish minister of education. From 1992 till 1995 he was his chief of cabinet. He went on to become director general for secondary education. Since 2006 he has been director general for international projects in education for the Flemish Ministry of Education. He has been a member of the OECD Education Committee since 1994 and was the chair from 1997 till 2000. He participated in a whole range of OECD education activities. He was a member of the OECD Strategic Management Group for 6 years and chaired the group from 2003 till 2007. He has done consultancy work for the OECD, OSI, and the World Bank. He was a speaker at the 1st OECD Global Forum for Education.
