OECD Tokyo Forum on Trade - "In Search of the Future under Globalization", 14-15 July 2005, Tokyo

The Tokyo Forum entitled “In Search of the Future under Globalization” was co-organised by the OECD and the Institute for International Studies and Training (IIST) on 14 and 15 July 2005, with the support of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (METI) and Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of Japan, the Research Institute of Economy Trade and Industry (RIETI) and Keidanren.

At the event, the “Trade and Structural Adjustment” report was presented together with another report “Growth in Services” which had also been reported to the OECD MCM 2005. The event featured presentations by Mr. Yoshitomi, President and Chairman of RIETI, by Mr. Honda, Chairman of BIAC Japan and by other academics/senior officials from Korea, ASEAN countries, Australia and Europe.

Mirroring conclusions from the OECD Ministers, which stressed the need to deepen the understanding of the impacts of globalisation in both OECD and non-OECD economies, participants at the Forum recognized the need to share experiences and best practices.

The Forum which helped dispel some of the misperceptions about globalisation, was an important venue for an open exchange of views with representatives from government, the business sector, academia and the media. The wide range of expertise around the table and the focus on Asia made this event a good complement to the Ministerial discussions.
