26/03/2009 - Faced with uncertain economic prospects, governments must find forward-looking solutions to secure food resources, conserve fuel and protect the environment. Scientists and policymakers will meet on 6-8 April in Prague to present and discuss the latest findings in research on animal cloning, food safety and pest control, soil degradation, global water supply and demand, and biofuels.
The conference is open to the media. It is organised by OECD’s Co-operative Research Programme: Biological Resource Management for Sustainable Agricultural Systems, created to strengthen co-operative efforts among research scientists and institutions. Its 2005-2009 programme focuses on agro-food research. Hosted by the Czech Ministry of Agriculture, the conference takes place at the Institute of Agricultural Economics and Information, in Prague. A press conference will take place at 13.00, Wednesday, 8 April, to present conclusions and policy proposals for the future. Speakers will include Milan Podsenícek, Czech Ministry of Agriculture, Wilfrid Legg, head of Agriculture Policies and the Environment, OECD, Gerrit Meester, Chair of the OECD Committee for Agriculture and Michel Dodet, Chair of the Co-operative Research Programme.
