Towards a Joint West African Approach...
West African countries are aware of the need to combat illegal migration. However, they would like these issues to be addressed within the framework of a global strategy to promote the mobility of people within their region; and despite the often poor quality of statistics, to better control migration flows towards the rest of the world. A first experts meeting, organised with the support of the SWAC, took place in Dakar from 10 to 12 April 2007. On the basis of the major West African migration issues, the experts group drafted a proposal for a "Joint ECOWAS Approach on Migration" that will be discussed at the ECOWAS member states meeting in Accra by mid-May 2007 and then submitted to the ECOWAS Ministerial Meeting, to be held at the end of May 2007 in Bamako or Abuja. > learn more | read the mission report (French).

Launching the FCPN website
The new FCPN website www.food-security.net was presented and officially launched within the context of the meeting. As a new information tool, it aims to enable all categories of actors (political decision-makers, technical and financial partners, civil society organisations, the media, etc.), to have access to reliable information on the food situation in the region and to make decisions for action accordingly.

ECOWAS Seminar on an Early Warning System for Crisis Prevention
Within the framework of its governance and conflict prevention initiatives, Mr. Massaër Diallo, Head of the Governance, Conflict Prevention Peace and Security Unit, was invited by ECOWAS to participate in a strategic thinking seminar on the creation and implementation of an early warning system for crisis prevention in the region from 2 to 6 April 2007 in Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire).
Preparatory Meeting of the ECOWAS 2007-2010 Strategic Action Plan
The Sahel and West Africa Club was invited by ECOWAS, its regional partner, to participate in strategic thinking on the 2007-2010 Strategic Action Plan which will define ECOWAS’ orientations for the next five years. This strategic thinking is within the framework of the ECOWAS-SWAC’s strategic partnership. The preparatory meeting took place in Cotonou (Benin) from 21 to 25 April 2007. The SWAC was represented by Mr. Diallo.

Community Radio Stations Network fostering regional co-operation in Sénégambie méridionale
The work carried out by the SWAC and its WABI network partners over the past three years illustrates, through its concrete field-level experiences, the great potential of cross-border radio station networks to strengthen West African integration. In June 2006, the “Kurumba” network was launched with the support of MDP in the Sikasso-Korhogo-Bobo-Dioulasso zone. In February 2007, a second workshop on cross-border communities radio stations in Guinea-Bissau and Senegal was held with the support of the SWAC and its partners Enda-Diapol and the GTZ-Procas. > learn more
