At 1.5% in December 2008, annual inflation in OECD area continues to slow

03/02/2009 - Consumer prices in the OECD area rose by 1.5% in the year to December 2008, compared with 2.2% in the year to November. Month-on-month, prices fell 0.5% in December, after declining 0.9% in November.

The drop in inflation rates mainly reflects a year-on-year fall in energy prices of 8.9% in December, compared with a fall of 2.4% in November.

Consumer prices for food were up by 6.0% in December compared with 6.2% in November. Excluding food and energy, consumer prices rose by 2.0% in the year to December, compared with 2.2% in November. etc.
