Entering into Dialogue - Wikigender.org

Wikigender (www.wikigender.org)

Your Online Resource on Gender Equality

Wikigender (www.wikigender.org) is the OECD’s first interactive website using "wiki" technology. It allows registered users to add, edit or comment on the information provided. The website follows a 3-tier approach. Depending on the member status, it allows users to (i) read, (ii) modify or (iii) protect content, which guarantees the security of sensitive and proprietary information. A special label signals when content is provided by an official source, such as the OECD.

Introducing new.wikigender.org

On International Women's Day 2009, the Development Centre will present Wikigender Vol. 2, offering many new features to explore and discuss information on gender equality. Already today, users are invited to test this improved platform, which has been released in its beta version. To visit the site, click on http://new.wikigender.org.

How to Use Wikigender

Wikigender offers comprehensive information on the situation of women and men around the world. Accessing this resource is easy. This tutorial gives a quick introduction to using the Wikigender website.

Background

Closely linked to the Development Centre’s current work on gender, but destined to evolve as more members of the community become involved, Wikigender fulfils a need for the “gender community” to maintain dynamic contact across the globe. For the OECD, this initiative provides the unique opportunity to reach out to new communities, to engage in a dialogue with users and to test the idea of expanding the "wiki" platform, in line with the 2007 Istanbul Declaration and the OECD’s Global Project on “Measuring the Progress of Societies".

The Wikigender site is provided to the global community to foster the analysis of gender issues. It grew out of the Development Centre’s Gender Institutions and Development Data Base (www.oecd.org/dev/gid).
