For the 50th Anniversary of OECD, the Chair of the OECD Scheme for Fruit and Vegetables provides his views on past, present and future of the activity in the 2011 special edition of the Codes and Schemes brochure.

OECD Guidelines

The OECD Guidelines brochure on objective tests to determine quality of fruit and vegetables, dry and dried produce describes those methods of objective testing of fruits that have emerged as beneficial to both Inspection Services, and the fruit industry in general in determining acceptable levels of ripeness and quality.

The OECD Guidelines brochure on training of inspectors on quality inspection is an international reference to the private and public Inspection Services. It helps them to establish a professional inspection team and facilitates the development of initial and annual education plan for quality inspectors.

The OECD Schemes on the African Continent

• On the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the OECD Fruit and Vegetables Scheme, the 71st OECD Plenary Meeting will be hosted by France in early December in South France.

• The 70th OECD Plenary Meeting took place on 7-8 December 2011 at the OECD Conference Centre in Paris. It was preceded on 6 December by technical working group meetings. 

• The OECD Workshop and Training on Market requirements was held in Kenya on 4-7 April 2011.

• The 15th Meeting of Heads of National Inspection Services was hosted by Hungary on 8-10 March 2011. 15th OECD Meeting of Heads of National Inspection Services.The proceedings of the Meeting are available.

These brochures are published within the framework of the Scheme for the Application of International Standards for Fruit and Vegetables set up by OECD in 1962. They comprise explanatory notes and illustrations to facilitate the consistent interpretation of standards. Therefore, they are a valuable tool for both the Inspection Authorities and professional bodies responsible for the application of standards or interested in trade in these products.
