OECD takes up the torch of gender equality and women’s empowerment

Paris, 21 May: This morning Gunilla Carlsson, the Swedish Minister for International Development Co-operation, presented lighted torches to the OECD’s Secretary General, Angel Gurria, and to the Chair of the Development Assistance Committee, Eckhard Deutscher in recognition of their promises to "do something extra" to promote gender equality and women's empowerment. The presentation was part of the Danish government’s MDG-3 Global Call to Action, a campaign designed to increase international support and investments in the achievement of the targets embodied in the MDG3. 100 MDG3 torches are travelling the world, generating strengthened commitments form governments, the private sector, international organisations and civil society. The last torch will be presented to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on 25 September.
