09/10/2009 - OECD composite leading indicators (CLIs) for August 2009 continue to point to recovery in all major economies with CLIs for France and Italy pointing to a potential expansion; however these expansion signals should be interpreted with some care as the CLIs are less precise in differentiating between expansion and recovery than in identifying turning points. etc.

The methodology used, starting from December 2008, to compile OECD CLIs and reference series trend is described in the document: "OECD system of Composite Leading Indicators". Up to December 2008, the methodology used by the OECD is described in "OECD Composite Leading indicators: a tool for short-term analysis".

The next publication of the OECD's CLI will be on 6 November 2009.
